Meteor partners with Hort Americas
To strengthen sustainability in North American horticulture with water culture growing solutions.
Joining forces to supply the North American market with HDPE floating rafts marks an important step toward a waste-free future for the greenhouse industry. As Meteor Systems’ new distribution partner, Hort Americas will play a key role in introducing these rafts and educating the market on the latest water cultivation techniques.
Bas Dirven, inventor and head of Meteor Systems’ water culture department, highlights the benefits:
“Our goals align well with those of Hort Americas: improving the sustainability and efficiency of horticultural practices. Compared to traditional EPS, HDPE rafts allow for higher yields per m² with less water and energy due to their shape. They offer better insulation and cleaning properties, reduce the risk of yield loss, and last significantly longer. Being fully automatable, they are an ideal product for modern, smart agricultural environments.”
Chris Higgins, co-founder and General Manager of Hort Americas, adds:
“Our goal is to provide sustainable products, and we believe these rafts are currently the best option for water cultivation. Offering HDPE rafts not only supports environmentally friendly practices but also delivers a more profitable long-term investment compared to EPS.”
With this collaboration, North American growers gain access to a more sustainable and cost-effective solution that supports higher yields, minimizes risk, and reduces environmental impact.
Meteor Systems continues to innovate in water culture technology. The latest roll container system combines deep-water culture (DWC), Nutrient Film Technique (NFT), and ebb-and-flow methods, ensuring plants receive direct access to oxygen and nutrients for faster, healthier growth. At the same time, growers can maximize space efficiency in controlled environments and improve turnover without the challenges of root extrudates.
